The Burundian Civil War ended in 2005. This was after a peace agreement was signed between the government and the rebel group, the Forces for the Defence of Democracy-Forces for the Liberation of Burundi (FDD). The peace agreement was mediated by the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN). The war had lasted for over 12 years and had resulted in the deaths of over 300,000 people.
