Piet de Jong became Prime Minister of the Netherlands in 1967. He was a member of the Christian Democratic Appeal party and served as prime minister until 1971. During his time in office, he oversaw the country's transition from a predominantly agricultural economy to a more industrial one. He also played a key role in the development of the European Economic Community (EEC).
