Answer
Phibunsongkhram returned to power in 1947 as a result of a coup d'etat, overthrowing the civilian government led by Khuang Aphaiwong. The coup was instigated by military officers who were dissatisfied with the government's handling of political and economic issues, particularly its perceived leniency towards political opponents and communists. Phibunsongkhram, a former prime minister and military strongman, was subsequently invited to lead the new government.
