Answer
Pliny the Elder continued the work of Aufidius Bassus, a Roman historian who wrote a history of the Roman Republic. Pliny's work, the Natural History, was a comprehensive encyclopedia of the natural world, covering topics such as astronomy, geography, zoology, and botany. Pliny drew heavily on Bassus's work, incorporating much of his material into his own.
