In addition to being Prime Minister, Portia Simpson-Miller also served as Minister of Labour, Social Security and Sport throughout her career. She was first elected to Parliament in 1976 and has held a number of ministerial positions, including Minister of Education, Minister of Health, and Minister of Finance. In 2006, she became the first female Prime Minister of Jamaica.
