The Indian Removal policy led to the Potawatomi ceding many of their lands. Under this policy, they were forced to relocate to Nebraska, Kansas, and Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). Some bands survived in the Great Lakes region and are now federally recognized as tribes.
