Primo Carnera was indeed involved in a bout fix during his career. In 1930, he was paid $25,000 to lose to Jack Sharkey in the heavyweight championship fight. The fix was discovered when Sharkey threw a punch that was too hard and broke Carnera's nose. Carnera later admitted to the fix, but said that he had been forced to do it by his manager, Al Capone.
