Prince Arthur was 16 when he entered the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich in 1858. He was educated at Eton College from 1852 to 1858, where he was known as "Arthur Wellesley", and was a pupil of the Reverend Charles Kingsley. In 1857, he was granted the Royal Military Schoolship, which entitled him to enter the Royal Military Academy without a competitive examination.
