Jim Leyland was the manager of the Detroit Tigers when Prince Fielder signed with them. Fielder was a free agent after the 2011 season and signed a nine-year, $214 million contract with the Tigers. Leyland had been the Tigers' manager since 2006 and led the team to the World Series title in 2006. He retired after the 2013 season.
