Kirtipur was the only kingdom that Prithvi Narayan Shah failed to conquer. It was a small, fortified town located just west of Kathmandu. The Kirtipur people were fierce warriors, and they were able to successfully defend their town against Shah's attacks. Shah eventually gave up on his attempts to conquer Kirtipur, and it remained an independent kingdom until it was finally annexed by Nepal in 1769.
