Nuwakot was the first kingdom conquered by Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of modern Nepal. In 1744, Shah, then the king of Gorkha, launched a campaign to expand his territory. Nuwakot, a strategically important kingdom located north of Kathmandu, was his first target.
