Ptolemy IV Philopator was the second pharaoh of the Ptolemaic dynasty of Egypt. He was the son of Ptolemy III and Berenice II, and succeeded his father to the throne in 222 BC. Ptolemy IV was a weak and indecisive ruler, and his reign was marked by political instability and military defeats. He was assassinated in 204 BC, and was succeeded by his son, Ptolemy V.
