Answer
Sicily was the territory that Pyrrhus took over from Carthage. Pyrrhus, the king of Epirus, invaded Sicily in 278 BC to aid the Greek cities against Carthaginian rule. After several victories, he gained control of most of the island, except for the Carthaginian stronghold of Lilybaeum. However, Pyrrhus's victories came at a high cost, and he was eventually forced to withdraw from Sicily in 275 BC.
