The Yongzheng Emperor, whose reign lasted from 1722 to 1735, was the fifth emperor of the Qing dynasty and the father of the Qianlong Emperor. He was born in 1678 as Hongli, the fourth son of the Kangxi Emperor. After the death of his elder brother in 1703, Hongli was made crown prince. He succeeded his father to the throne in 1722 and ruled for 13 years.
