Qutuz reigned as Sultan of Egypt for less than a year, from 1259 to 1260. He was a Mamluk commander who seized power after the death of Al-Kamil in 1259. He led the Mamluk army to victory against the Mongols at the Battle of Ain Jalut in 1260. Qutuz was assassinated in 1260 by Baibars, who succeeded him as Sultan.
