Answer
William Walker was an American filibuster who was involved in several invasions of Central America in the 1850s. He was successful in overthrowing the government of Nicaragua in 1856 and establishing himself as president, but was eventually defeated by a coalition of Central American forces and executed in 1860. Carrera had combated invasions from Walker in both 1856 and 1860, and was instrumental in his defeat.
