The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), established by the United Nations in 1993, tried Ratko Mladić. The ICTY's mandate was to prosecute individuals responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of the former Yugoslavia since 1991. Mladić, a Bosnian Serb military leader, was found guilty of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed during the Bosnian War from 1992 to 1995.
