Answer
Formed in 1975, the Turkish Federated State of Cyprus (TRNC) was a self-declared state in northern Cyprus. Comprising roughly one-third of the island, it resulted from the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974. While the TRNC was recognized only by Turkey, it maintained a distinct government, economy, and military until re-unification talks began in the late 1990s.
