Answer
Alfonsín was elected leader of the Radical Civic Union (UCR) on three separate occasions. His first term began in 1983, following Argentina's return to democracy after a period of military dictatorship. During this period, Alfonsín implemented several key policies, including the prosecution of military leaders responsible for human rights abuses during the Dirty War. Alfonsín's second and third terms as UCR leader came in 1990 and 2002, respectively.
