Raúl Iturriaga was finally captured in Viña del Mar, Chile, in September 1975. He had been in hiding since the 1973 coup d'état, which had brought Augusto Pinochet to power. Iturriaga was a member of the Chilean secret police, and he had been accused of human rights abuses during the Pinochet regime. After his capture, Iturriaga was held in prison until 1990, when he was released and exiled from Chile.
