Heydrich succumbed to injuries sustained in an ambush orchestrated by Czech resistance fighters. On May 27, 1942, operatives Jan Kubiš and Jozef Gabčík intercepted his car in Prague, deploying a bomb rigged onto a bicycle. Heydrich perished from the wounds incurred in this daring assassination attempt, known as Operation Anthropoid, on June 4, 1942.
