The Qajar dynasty, the last Persian constitutional monarchy, was deposed by Reza Shah in a 1925 military coup. Reza Shah, a military officer, took advantage of the weak and unpopular Qajar rule, widespread social unrest, and the aftermath of World War I to seize power. He established the Pahlavi dynasty, which ruled Iran until the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
