In 2008, Richard Garriott spent 12 days in space aboard the Soyuz TMA-13 spacecraft as part of the Expedition 17 crew on the International Space Station. During his mission, Garriott participated in various scientific experiments and conducted educational outreach programs. He became the first second-generation space traveler, following his father Owen Garriott, who flew on Skylab 3 in 1973.
