John McCone was the director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 1961 to 1965, and was succeeded by Richard Helms. McCone was a former president of the Bank of California, and was appointed by President John F. Kennedy to lead the CIA. During his time as director, McCone oversaw the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis. McCone resigned as director in 1965, and was replaced by Helms.
