On 17 October 2020, Welsh international Alun Wyn Jones became the most capped international rugby union player of all time, surpassing the previous record of 148 caps held by New Zealand's Richie McCaw. Jones, who was 35 at the time, reached the milestone in his 149th international appearance, which came in a Six Nations match against Italy. He has since extended his record to 152 caps, as of February 2023.
