The Boer War was a conflict between the British Empire and the Boer republics of Transvaal and Orange Free State. It began in 1899 and ended in 1902 with a British victory. Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, served in the British Army during the Boer War. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his bravery in battle.
