Robert Bárány was born on April 22, 1876, in Vienna, Austria-Hungary (now Austria). He was a physician who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1914 for his work on the physiology of the vestibular system. Bárány was the first to describe the otolith organs and their role in balance. He also developed a number of diagnostic tests for vestibular disorders.
