William Cecil was the father of Robert Cecil. William Cecil, also known as Lord Burghley, was a prominent English statesman and advisor to Queen Elizabeth I. He served as Secretary of State from 1558 to 1572 and again from 1573 to 1598. Robert Cecil, his son, also became a notable politician and succeeded his father as Secretary of State in 1596.
