Robert Coleman Richardson was born on June 26, 1937. An American experimental physicist, Richardson is best known for his work on cooling matter to extremely low temperatures, for which he shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1996 with Douglas D. Osheroff and David M. Lee.
