Howard Hughes committed suicide by consuming a lethal cocktail of drugs on August 5, 1976. He died eight hours later, at the age of 70. Hughes had been suffering from a variety of health problems, including diabetes, emphysema, and depression. He had also been addicted to drugs for many years. His death was ruled a suicide by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.
