  • David, Duke of Rothesay

  • Robert, Earl of Fife

Answer

James, Earl of Carrick, was the only surviving son of Robert III, King of Scotland. James became heir to the throne upon his father's death in 1406, but was captured by the English while traveling to France in 1406. He remained a prisoner in England for 18 years, during which time his uncle, Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, acted as regent of Scotland.
