Robert Muldoon succeeded Jack Marshall as Leader of the Opposition in 1974. Marshall had been Leader of the Opposition since 1964, and had been Prime Minister from 1972 to 1974. Muldoon went on to lead the National Party to victory in the 1975 general election, becoming Prime Minister.
