Cardinal Robert Sarah is a Guinean prelate of the Catholic Church who has held several high-ranking positions in the Roman Curia. Born in French Guinea (present-day Guinea) in 1945, he was ordained a priest in 1969 and rose through the ranks of the Guinean Catholic Church. He was appointed Archbishop of Conakry by Pope John Paul II in 1979 and was elevated to the College of Cardinals in 2001.
