Answer
Rodion Malinovsky replaced Georgy Zhukov as Minister of Defence after Zhukov was fired by Nikita Khrushchev in October 1957. Malinovsky had been Zhukov's deputy, and he was seen as a more loyal and less ambitious figure than Zhukov. Malinovsky served as Minister of Defence until his death in 1967, and he was succeeded by Andrei Grechko.
