Hornsby played for the Boston Braves for one season. He was traded from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Braves in 1927. He had a very successful season with the Braves, batting.375 with 23 home runs and 121 RBIs. He was also named the National League MVP that year. However, the Braves did not make the playoffs, and Hornsby was traded back to the Cardinals after the season.
