Roland Burris served as U.S. Senator for Illinois for two years. He was appointed by Governor Rod Blagojevich in December 2008 to replace President-elect Barack Obama, who had resigned to become the 44th President of the United States. Burris was defeated in the 2010 election by Republican Mark Kirk.
