Ungern restored the power of the Bogd Khan in 1921. This was a Mongolian emperor who had been overthrown in 1911 by a revolution. Ungern was a Russian military officer who had become disillusioned with the Russian Revolution and had gone to Mongolia to help the Bogd Khan regain his throne. He was successful in this, and the Bogd Khan ruled Mongolia until his death in 1924.
