Stomach cancer was the cause of death for Italian-born singer and songwriter Ronnie James Dio. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2009 and died six months later. Dio was a founding member of the rock bands Rainbow and Black Sabbath, and was known for his powerful voice and theatrical stage presence. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
