Roy Blunt succeeded Mel Hancock in Missouri's 7th congressional district. Hancock was a Republican member of the US House of Representatives from 1989 to 1997. Blunt, also a Republican, won the seat in a special election held after Hancock announced his retirement. He has held the seat since then, winning re-election six times.
