Four terms. Cooper was appointed as Attorney General by President Andrew Jackson in 1831 and served until 1834. He was then reappointed by President Martin Van Buren and served until 1838. He was again appointed by President John Tyler in 1841 and served until 1845. Finally, he was once more appointed by President James K. Polk and served until 1846.
