Almazbek Atambayev took office as the president of Kyrgyzstan after Roza Otunbayeva's presidency ended in 2011. He was elected in the presidential election of that year and served until 2017. Atambayev was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan and had previously served as prime minister from 2007 to 2009.
