Rudaki lived in the 10th century. He was a Persian poet who is considered one of the greatest poets of the Persian language. He was born in Rudak, a village near Samarkand, in what is now Uzbekistan. He was a court poet for the Samanid dynasty and wrote many poems in praise of the Samanid rulers. He also wrote poems about love, nature, and the human condition.
