Who did Hess hope to arrange peace talks with in Scotland?

  • Winston Churchill

  • Duke of Hamilton

  • George VI

  • Prime Minister Clement Attlee

Answer

In September 1941, Hess flew from Germany to Scotland in a Messerschmitt Bf 110 fighter, landing at a farm near Eaglesham in Renfrewshire. He was hoping to arrange peace talks with the Duke of Hamilton, who was a member of the British peerage and an advocate of peace. Hess had been in contact with Hamilton through a third party, and had agreed to meet him in Scotland.
