Rudolf I was born on 1 May 1218 in Neuenburg, Switzerland. He was the son of Albert IV, Count of Habsburg, and Elisabeth of Kyburg. Rudolf was the first Habsburg to become King of Germany. He was also the founder of the Habsburg dynasty, which would rule Austria for over 600 years.
