In total, 52 were martyred along with Saint Boniface. He and his companions were captured by Frisian pagans in 754 AD, tortured, and then killed. The martyrs' bodies were mutilated and burned, and their remains were scattered. Boniface was a Christian missionary who had been working in Frisia for many years. He was a very effective missionary, and many Frisians converted to Christianity as a result of his work.
