Edgar Ætheling was the brother of Margaret, who was the wife of King Malcolm III of Scotland. Edgar was the last male member of the Anglo-Saxon royal family and was briefly proclaimed king of England in 1066 after the death of Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings. However, he was never crowned and was forced to flee into exile after the Norman conquest.
