Sally Ride spent 343 hours in space during her two missions aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger. Her first mission, STS-7, launched on June 18, 1983, and lasted 147 hours. Her second mission, STS-41-G, launched on October 5, 1984, and lasted 196 hours. Ride was the first American woman to travel to space and the youngest American to do so at the time.
