Loxton served in the 31st Tank Division of the British Army during World War II. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 11th Hussars in 1937, and fought in the Battle of France in 1940. He was captured by the Germans in May 1940 and spent the rest of the war in a prisoner-of-war camp.
