Samuel Griffith passed away in 1920, at the age of 74. He was a prominent Australian politician and jurist, and was the first Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia. Griffith was born in England in 1845, and emigrated to Australia with his family in 1851. He studied law at the University of Sydney, and was admitted to the bar in 1866.
