Couturier was drafted by the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the QMJHL in the first round, 21st overall, in the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft. He then played three seasons with the Voltigeurs, where he was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team in 2011-12 and the QMJHL First All-Star Team in 2012-13.
